Pupa Tater

… Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. (Mark 9:24)

Don’t Wanna Be No Pupa Tater

I was in a Bible study group with a bunch of women and one kept saying that she “don’t wanna be no pupa tater.” I kept imagining a red baby potato, or a papoose-baby. I wasn’t sure what she was talking about … then I realized she was saying pew potato.

Ah. Yes. I’d never heard the term, but I knew it well. Because I am, myself, a pupa tater.

I am a skeptical Christian, a doubting Thomasina, a person who grew up Southern Baptist before becoming an atheist in my early 20’s.

I’m now pushing 40 and continue to have many questions about the Christian faith, and God in general, and theology, and these things keep resurfacing in my life. I hope to make this blog is a medium for considering some of those questions, and for meeting others who are doing the same.

I’m not a member of any church, so I guess I can’t technically be a pupa tater. But I’m close enough.
